  • Cinnamon: This herb has many health properties, including lowering blood pressure and fighting diabetes. Research subjects who ingested a water soluble form of cinnamon had an increase in the antioxidants that lower blood sugar levels.
  • Oregano: An animal subject study found that a compound found in oregano, carvacrol, reduced arterial pressure, diastolic and systolic pressures and the heart rate.
  • Cardamom: After taking this herb for only three months, 20 people who were recently diagnosed with severe hypertension saw their blood pressure levels significantly reduced.
  • Olives: Olive oil, a staple in the Mediterranean diet, has been shown to reduce blood pressure, making people who live in that area some of the world’s healthiest.
  • Hawthorn: When 79 people with Type 2 diabetes took 1200mg of hawthorn extract for sixteen weeks, their mean diastolic pressure was reduced.

Castor oil is great for thickening and regrowing hair, eyelashes and eyebrows

Castor oil is often overlooked for its benefits for the skin and hair because of its extremely thick and sticky consistency.  However, if you’re looking for a cheap, natural remedy for several common skin and hair complaints, then castor oil is definitely worth your time.

Castor oil for regrowing and thickening hair, eyelashes and eyebrows

I first stumbled on castor oil as a remedy for regrowing thin eyebrows. I had over-plucked my brows back in the nineties when it was the hip thing to have pencil thin brows, and they never did quite recover.  It became necessary for me to pencil in the “bald” spots and I missed the natural look of real hair where these spots were missing.

I read about castor oil as a remedy for thinning brows and hair, and thought I’d try it. I bought a hexane free, organic and cold pressed castor oil and started applying it to my eyebrows every night after washing my face.  After about three months, I noticed my brows were noticeably thicker (and they seemed to be growing in darker as well), and attributed it to the nightly application of castor oil.
I’m not the only one that this has worked for.  So, why would castor oil help you regrow hair – both on your head and the other two important places, the eyebrows and the eyelashes.

Castor oil is high in ricinoleic acid.  This acid is a very effective natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent.  This can help keep any fungus or bacteria from inhibiting hair growth.  Since the oil is also very thick, it may help to prevent hair loss simply by helping to coat the hair and protect it from falling out.

Castor oil is also high in omega 9 fatty acids, which are nourishing to both the hair and the follicle, as well as the surrounding skin.  Castor oil has a unique ability to be deeply penetrating, and this helps it to deliver its nourishment deeply into the pores and the follicles that produce hair.
It also has a high gloss, so it lends a lush glossiness and shine to the hair. A little goes a long way, and it is best to only add a tiny bit to the very ends of your hair instead of putting it up near the scalp if you’re just looking for a natural hair smoother.

Simply put about two drops on your hands and rub, then smooth through the ends.  If you use too much, there is a fine line between subtle shine and a heavy greasiness so go very light until you figure out the amount that works right for your hair type.

If you’re looking to regrow the hair on your head, you can use castor oil as a scalp treatment. However it can be tricky to get on the scalp without thinning it out with a lighter oil. You can add some melted coconut oil, apricot kernel oil or another lighter oil to help get it spreadable enough.
If you’re simply looking to help thicken hair that is thinning at the edges of your hairline, you can use pure castor oil, with a light hand of course.  Another use is to apply the oil to eyelashes to help thicken and strengthen them, as well as to help prevent thinning and shedding.

Castor oil for scar tissue reduction and shiny, smooth lips

Many attest to the wonders castor oil offers for keloid types of scars and other scars that involve a lot of hardened scar tissue.  This is presumably due to its ability for deep penetration through multiple skin layers.

Because castor oil softens the skin so much, the thought is that this softening helps to break down deep scar tissue so it may be smoothed out.  In addition, castor oil has shown promise as a white blood cell stimulating agent.  Studies have also shown that castor bean oil helps reduce the inflammatory response in subcutaneous tissue.  This may be why it seems to speed wound healing, and may also contribute to its ability to reduce scarring more quickly.

So, fiber is so important to good health, but the truth is that most Americans get less than half the recommended daily amount of fiber. Experts recommend 25 grams per day for women and 38 grams for men daily, while the average American consumes only around 15 grams. How to add more fiber to your diet? Here are some simple guides:

1. Eating more plant foods, including fruits, vegetables and whole grains. This is one of the healthiest ways and the most recommended method to get your fiber, as these foods also provide the essential nutrients your body needs. The Huffington Post Canada listed 14 high-fiber foods:

3. Read the nutrition labels before you buy foods, and choose foods with the highest dietary-fiber numbers.

4. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated as fibre works better when it absorbs water.
5. Add beans to a green salad. Beans are high in fiber and easy to add in your plate. There are so many choices and low in cost too:
Black beans
Butter beans
Chickpeas
Kidney beans
Navy beans
Soy beans
White beans
Lentils
Lima beans

6. Eat more nuts to get additional fiber. Almonds are great choice, as 1/2 cup of almonds contains 8 grams of fiber in it. You can add more nuts to your diet easily: Sprinkle almonds to yogurt; add peanuts to frozen yogurt; add nuts to your salads, soups, bread, pancakes or muffins; mix nuts into ice cream.

Why Assemblies of God Church Excommunicated General Superintendent

The Assemblies of God Church has announced the excommunication of its past General Superintendent, Rev. Paul Emeka, from the church But reacting to the development, Emeka told SUNDAY PUNCH the action was a “coup.”

While announcing the removal of its spiritual leader’s dismissal from the ministry with his pastoral certificate withdrawn, the church also announced the emergence of Rev. Chidi Okoroafor as the new General Superintendent of the church.

He was elected alongside three other principal officials and fifteen zonal representatives to form the new Executive Council of the church for the next four years.
 
The decisions were part of the resolutions reached by over 7,000 delegates of the church at the General Council meeting at its Evangel Camp, Okpoko in Ebonyi State.
At the council meeting, held every four years, the delegates reportedly decided on the excommunication after concluding that the ex-spiritual leader “had dragged the name of the church in the mud by instituting legal suits and using law enforcement agencies to witch-hunt some of their leaders.”

According to the Legal Adviser of the church, Barrister Abuka, the dismissal of Emeka was necessary and had paved the way to institute litigation against the former general superintendent, who was alleged to be “making moves with some members to take over the church.”

The church also claimed he was working with other alleged collaborators believed to be working at cross-purposes with the church’s leadership.
Commenting on the crisis rocking the church, Okoroafor said the measures were necessary to remove those whom he described as “dissidents bent on frustrating progress” in the church.

He confirmed that legal actions would be taken against Emeka and others seeking to take over the church through lawsuits.

Justifying the reasons for this, the new general superintendent said, “We cannot spiritualise legal issues. You can’t just be praying when somebody is taking you to courts. We would no long keep quiet and allow our property taken over or our accounts fraudulently run by them.”
He pointed out that the church had identified constitutional loopholes that Emeka and other capitalised on, stating that such sections would be properly addressed when an emergency council meeting holds next year.

However, the excommunicated general superintendent told SUNDAY PUNCH that he stood for reconciliation. According to him, the church has been embroiled in some crises in which a former Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria intervened in the matter.

Emeka said, “By announcing my excommunication from the church, they are trying to instill fear into people so that they can distance themselves from me. I stand for reconciliation. I have committed no offence.

“But, some people in the church organised an illegal election to remove me by force from office. They would not allow me to complete my four-year tenure in office which started in 2010. They are even threatening my life. I have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police on that
